7.EC
Now we live in the age of information. Latest technologies develop every day and even every minute. It is very important for us. Now we can find the needed person in a very short time using e-mail, mobile technologies, paging system and others. Maybe the most important of them is Internet. It started in 1960 when some governmental organizations in US wanted to connect their systems in a very reliable net, that couldn’t be affected by war. Later it developed and now we have a big computer network all over the world.
And as we have so many new technologies that are used to improve communication process we are talking about such scientific term as global village. There are no not accessible places in the world. So the distances now seem not to be so big like it looked hundred years ago. Then we can talk about centralized world. We can access almost every countries data base and know everything about it. We can talk to different people in teleconferencies as if we were sitting in one room. And that makes the world small.
New technologies help not only personal communication. Now many and almost every country use more fast and reliable means of communication than simple mail. An email message reaches its recipient in 4-10 seconds. So now all governmental institutions connect their computers to local networks and of course to the Internet.
The bank system is also based on latest technologies. Now we have electronic commerce. You can sit in your room and buy food, drinks, presents and different things. It is very convenient.
These late technologies help people to communicate and saves their money. Using teleconferenences you can talk with some of your friends or business partners who are in other side of the world.
NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It is a military alliance of Western nations with a purpose of collective defense. It was established in 1949 by the Treaty of Washington. 4 years ago we had its 50 aniversary.
Today its forms is no promoting stability throughout Europe. It develops the means for collective crisis management and peacekeeping. NATO has become the police officer of the world.
EU started in 1952 as European Coal and steel community (ECSC) and later – in 1957 after successful integration ECSC became European Economic Community (EEC). And only much later it became as it is now – European Community.
So as we see there are some organizations which centralizes this world. They connect countries in alliances and it is better to solve their problems together. Also it is a better way to solve conflicts which without such organizations could grow to such serious conflict as war. So NATO is such organization that has its own policy of peace and conflict solving. For such a small country as Lithuania it would be useful to enter such big and wealthy organization. But Lithuania has to develop its economy by itself, because there are some requirements that we must satisfy.
